A few thoughts ...

Throughout the song, in almost every verse, there is a theme of hope. The singer tells that she makes a less than ideal choice to get involved with a man with a car that is obviously not a good person, but it's evident that not only is she unhappy with the situation, but doesn't see her situation as being permanent. 

Throughout the song, there is a progression. The narrator is improving herself, looking forward to bigger and better things, and hoped to find someone that could improve himself alongside her. But, when that doesn't happen, she doesn't give up.

In every verse, there is a theme of hope:

"I got a plan to get us out of here"

"Managed to save just a little bit of money"

"I know things will get better"

"I got a job that pays all our bills"

But there's as well an ultimatum:

"I'd always hoped for better.

Thought maybe together you and me'd find it

I got no plans I ain't going nowhere

So take your fast car and keep on driving"

And it's became obviuous at the last lines of the song:

"You gotta make a decision

Leave tonight or live and die this way"

It's pretty clear that the dude has no intention of changing. There's no decision to make. It's already been made. With those words, she kicks his ass to the curb.
