Image
Today a colleague made me aware on this young lady. Not sure how I missed this video when it went viral a years ago but it touched me - should reach all of us - that's why I like to share it today, in case anyone missed it as well - take 7 minutes to listen and learn. Molly Wright took the TED Talk stage to gave a brilliant talk. She stressed and focused attention on the nature of learning, the 'qualities' of play for life. it's so brilliant how she brings the undeniable facts and benefits to light and named it crystal clear. I really love how she highlighted the benefits of play on lifelong learning, behavior and well-being, sharing effective strategies to help all kids thrive by the age of five.  When Molly Wright gave that talk in 2021, she was just seven years old. But that didn't stop her from talking, from speaking open and honestly, touching the people and reaching their / our minds and hearts.  Let us ensure or do our parts to ensure that all kids have the b...

How do our brains handle grief? TED talk

Image
Just a few of us will go through life without losing something or even worse someone we love - Grief is part of our life. Grief is the cost of love. The longing and sadness we feel after someone's death is the price we sometimes pay for the close relationships we cherish. Some people are more resilient after such a loss, can deal with their grief, and eventually adjust to life without their loved one. Others are unable to do so. I found it to be helpful for myself and others to think about and to distinguish between grief and grieving. Then as I did that, came to find that other people found it useful as well. Grief really is that feeling that you have, the sort of intensity that just overwhelms you, and that sort of momentary experience. Grieving, on the other hand, is the way that grief changes over time without ever actually going away.  In my blog I am writing about the different aspects ... What makes someone more or less resilient in the face of loss?  How is grief relat...

TED talk - We don't "move on" from grief. We move forward with it

Image
In a talk that's by turns heartbreaking and hilarious, writer and podcaster Nora McInerny shares her hard-earned wisdom about life and death. Her candid approach to something that will, let's face it, affect us all, is as liberating as it is gut-wrenching. Most powerfully, she encourages us to shift how we approach grief. "A grieving person is going to laugh again and smile again," she says. "They're going to move forward. But that doesn't mean that they've moved on." Nora McInerny • TEDWomen 2018  •  15 min ... And what I really love is the part where and when she talks about the fact that she slips to the Present Tense when she talks about her deceased husband - and that is what I recognized as well when I talk about my wife - memory are memories - but my wife is still with me - not only in my case I recognized it as well each time when I meet people who find 'their way' to deal with the lost. What I firmly believe and even hope is ...

The Importance of Choice at End of Life

Image
Helen O'Shaughnessey shares her touching and insightful experiences, on the importance of "end of life choice," in this 13 minute TEDx Talk.  Helen O'Shaughnessey worked as nurse and midwife. She is a  I a humanist and she believe that the greatest human right and the greatest human freedom is to be able to live and die according to one's own beliefs and desires. I like how she put her thoughts together and what she has to share regarding her experience and thought of dying with dignity: The importance of choice at end of life ...

Idea of Death and Life

Image
As designer I am watching TED talks quite often and regularly - most often about design, creativity and everything which comes into play with it - but as well psychology. I have no idea why I missed this talk for so long. Today I listen to the TED talk of Beth Malone - and I love with how much love and feelings she honestly talked about her father, the situation and ways to deal with it. How my dad's dementia changed my idea of death (and life) - TED talk by Beth Malone With warmth and grace, Beth Malone tells the deeply personal story of her dad's struggle with frontotemporal lobe dementia, and how it changed how she thinks about death (and life). A moving talk about a daughter's love -- and of letting go and finding peace. I am standing in awe of Beth Malone - and everyone who shares honestly their thought - And I appreciate and I am grateful to everyone who is keeping and supporting these kind of open talks - talking about living and in worst case find your own ways ...
