"The Little Prince": Philosophy for Adults - "On ne voit bien qu'avec le cœur. L'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux."

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's heroes were characterized by a universal humanism; they often seemed to move in an intermediary world between dream and reality.

This is especially evident in the author's most famous work, the fable: "The Little Prince" - which was published 1943 - 80 years ago - in the USA  (1945 in France and 1950 in Germany) perhaps it might be a gift to you and yours on Christmas.

Why should one read The Little Prince?

This narrative prompts friendship and humanity, a modern fable that ventures beyond the Earth into the realm of stars and planets. It is thought-provoking and offers food for thought, allowing the many phrases to be interpreted in various ways, which makes the story so versatile, manifold - you name it when you know it or once you read it.

What is the message of The Little Prince?

The central message is just as significant today as it was upon its publication in 1943 ...  "What is essential is invisible to the eye; one sees clearly only with the heart." Values such as friendship, trust, humanity, and mindfulness are given high importance here.

Is The Little Prince a fairytale? Sure yes - but much more ...

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's "The Little Prince" is a modern fairytale that places friendship and humanity at the center of the story. But in my opinion, it's a wonderful piece of philosophy.

What is the message of The Little Prince?

The central message is as meaningful today as it was when it was first published in 1945: "One sees clearly only with the heart. What is essential is invisible to the eye." Values like friendship, trust, humanity, and mindfulness are given great emphasis in this.

What can we learn from The Little Prince?

One of the most important lessons from The Little Prince: Knowing oneself. Before expressing love to others, or even before getting to know or judging them, one must know oneself. For only then does one know what one is truly capable of.

What is the moral of The Little Prince?

The most popular quote from The Little Prince is the statement of the fox, whom the prince meets during his journey - From the fox, the prince learns that his rose was indeed special because she was the object of the prince's love and time; he had "tamed" her, and now she was more precious than all of the other roses. Upon their departing, the fox says that important things can only be seen with the heart, not the eyes.

"One sees clearly only with the heart. What is essential is invisible to the eye."

"On ne voit bien qu'avec le cœur. L'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux."

„Man sieht nur mit dem Herzen gut. Das Wesentliche ist für die Augen unsichtbar.“
