Serenity - medicine against everyday stress without side effects

Image
Serenity is a state of sovereignty and freedom and overcoming sense of anxiety. People who have mastered Serenity are not so easily disturbed, hardly panic and certainly not get upset about little things. Rather, their serenity gives them inner freedom and security so that they can deal with problems confidently and relaxed. It is the attitude and ability to deal with difficult situations and not to lose your temper. In addition to the typical triggers of life in the form of external attacks, there are a few other factors that can challenge your composure and ensure that all good resolutions for more inner calm are immediately thrown overboard. A common problem: serenity is the exception. Most people are constantly in a mood that they are tensed up or unstrung up , get excited more than needed , debate, talk themselves into a rage, let themselves be pissed off and also freak out every now and then. Constant tension is normal, especially at work, and is sometimes expected. It is ...

Serenity and Patience

Image
“Patience you must have, my young Padawan,” says Yoda once to Luke Skywalker. Patience is a virtue that we often lack today. We seem to be constantly pressed, pushed for time - scampered and rushed - and when we have to wait, it drives us crazy.   But that doesn't help - it never helped, and it will not help. On the contrary, when we feel stress, we only harm ourselves.  Following you will find a few tips on how you can learn to become more patient, persistent and relaxed. Serenity and Patience With more serenity and patience, you can go through life much happier. You can deal with stress better, which can even save you from burnout in the long run and make you a happier person. What you should know: The decision whether you continue to rush through the day stressed out and being in a rage and you hit the ceiling at every opportunity is something you alone can do and you allow or not. Wouldn't you rather convert this negative energy into something positive? Serenity ...

Finding the Courage to let go of What You Can't Change - Being a Stoic

Image
Situations that are out of our control and / or cannot be changed - are challenging - but obstinately fighting or trying to change them most often all in all causes will only causes pain and frustration. As ... surprise they are out of our control and / or cannot be changed. Letting go is not giving up - it is part of awareness and self-awareness - Letting go stands for gaining deeper understanding and acceptance of yourself - it is part of recognizing our own needs and values, and gaining insight into what really matters in life for you and as well for yours. So when we have the courage to let go of the things that cannot be changed, we open a new door for ourselves to greater happiness and growth. We learned to accept it, focus on what we could control, and create a better future for yourself. “ Patience you must have, my young Padawan, ” says Yoda once to Luke Skywalker. And I am pretty sure we all know the serenity prayer: “ God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I can...

International Day of Happiness - March 20th

Image
International Day of Happiness aims to celebrate happiness all over the world, inspiring people to spread positivity, whether big or small, with others and encouraging each nation to prioritize the happiness of its citizens. March 20th is the UN International Day of Happiness . We can create a happier and kinder world together by adopting simple, daily practices. This year’s theme is: ‘ Be Mindful. Be Grateful. Be Kind ’ Maybe you’ve always thought of yourself as being a “glass half full” or “glass half empty” kind of person.  And many people think, that’s just the way they were born. - I firmly believe it is the way how they see the world, their life or in the very moment. While some people seem to be naturally happier and some have to work harder at it, everyone can implement practices in their lives shown to elevate satisfaction and joy.  Research tells us that when people feel happier, they are more resilient, more productive at work, and nicer to be around. We are simply ...

What does peace mean to you? Inner Peace, Happiness and Satisfaction

Image
We live in a hectic, busy, and restless world and time. We have little time to really assimilate, deal with, and digest what challenges us every day. How can we cope with the worries of daily life and find lasting serenity and achieve inner peace? A better world starts with you and begins within you And all too often one looks outside when they want to overcome their challenges and dissatisfactions. Most people also tend to only look outwards when they look at what is going wrong in their world. I think it's important to be active, but I've also observed that some people are driven by their inner dissatisfaction.  If the main motivation for one's actions are dissatisfaction or in other words if the main motivation for one's actions are anger, fear, greed or even hatred, it will also be what these people will bring into the world. Way too often we don't really know what's going on inside us. It is all the more important to get to know us. To see what is happening...

Go Your Chosen Path as far as you want, can, ...

Image
My stoic mantra ... Go as far as you can. When you get there You will see how it goes on. Your path and purpose will become clear and become yours - when you begin to trust yourself. The path - your path is the destination. Live your life for you with self-awareness, trust und confidence You have to trust in yourself - trust in something - your gut, destiny, life, karma, good in others ... whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life. When you look to the past, don't sit and dwell on your regrets. Instead, focus on the things you learned from each experience and how they may enrich your future. Use the past not as something to hold you back, but as a method for reaffirming the drive to move forward on your chosen path. Live your life for you and not to please expectations Social pressure is deceiving - we all become influenced without noticing it. Before we realize we lost control of our lives, we end up envying how other people li...

Never Bean Better Day - August, 22nd

Image
Today is 'Never Bean Better Day' - a day that honors the unique bond between humans and therapy dogs, specifically spotlighting a special dog named Bean. This day encourages people to recognize the comforting and healing power these animals bring into the lives of those who need it most. History of Never Bean Better Day Never Bean Better Day was established on August 22, 2017, to honor a therapy dog named Bean. Bean, born in 2009 in Morgantown, Pennsylvania, quickly became more than just a pet. By the age of two, Bean was a certified therapy dog, visiting hospitals, schools, nursing homes, and rehabilitation centers. His presence brought comfort and joy to many, especially those struggling with illness or emotional distress. Why I think it's important to be aware on Therapy Animals  First of all because my wife and I worked with animals for so many years to help people. My wife was a hippotherapist. Hippotherapy is a physical, occupational, and speech therapy that utilizes ...

Reflecting on Principles and Values

Image
Identifying and understanding your values might be or most often  is a challenging and important exercise. Your personal values form a significant aspect of who you are, and who you aspire to be. By being more aware of these significant elements in your life, you can use them to make the most suitable decision in any situation. Some of life's decisions revolve around identifying what you value the most. When multiple options seem plausible, it is comforting and beneficial to rely on your principles as a strong guiding force to steer you in the right direction. What is the significance of holding values? Your values are the beliefs and ethics you deem significant in influencing the course of your lifestyle and work. These principles should ideally govern your priorities and guide your choices as well as your behaviour towards others. When your actions align with your principles, life seems rewarding. Why are personal values crucial? Recognizing your values could signi...

Emotions are more than Feelings

Image
Thoughts and feelings are intimately linked, more like two sides of the same coin.  An important goal of looking at your life, meaning and important things of life, and dealing with it is  - from my point of view (and I am a stoic ) in general is to learn to control what we can - our judgments and beliefs and what we do with our lives - and let go of the rest. This is a lesson I experienced and learned by my stoic way of living and looking at challenges. For that matter, learning to separate what we can control and what we can’t is an important life lesson for us all - I think. Recently I heard of the ABCs of Emotions I am firmly believing that how we deal and think about life and challenges in life have a determining effect on our emotional states. And as I think in pictures and structures - like the ABC model - I heard of lately.  A  = Activating life event .... that cause / bring on the trigger for an emotional response, reaction, or feeling B  = Belief...

What is happiness? And what does happiness mean?

Image
I am very sure that all people long for happiness - a fulfilling feeling of life - most people certainly agree on this. What happiness is and what it means for oneself and for other people, everyone probably wonders, so many people have asked themselves, people have asked themselves across all times and philosophy since ancient times: An inner contentment is the form of happiness that everyone is seeking and trying to find. I see conscious living, conscious enjoyment as the happiness of life and the meaning of life, and it is also an attitude of appreciation and gratitude towards pleasures and joys. The modern consumer society and business world ... What I observe, or as I see it, is that the modern consumer society often leads to the point that people are dissatisfied because they are constantly striving for external things to find their happiness. Often, however, they are not aware of what they really want and what would truly fulfill them - fulfilling them really,  inside themse...

Bad luck brings good luck - and good luck brings bad luck - ... What we can learn from Stoicism

Image
Bad luck brings good luck - and good luck brings bad luck - ... how lessons from Stoicism accompanied me through my life. It is worth it for everyone to look deeper into the philosophy of Stoicism. It is a method to help us in our thinking and actions in our fast moving and often unpredictable world. We can’t control the external events in our lives. But when something happens in our lives, we are in the position to decide what these things mean; we decided what the effect is. And remember this quote: “Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.” Stoicism is about the wisdom, or call it way of thinking and dealing with challenges that allows us to have a good and happy life. When it comes to dealing with difficult situations or people, the principles of Stoicism can provide you with a wealth of insight and advice. Putting it into a nutshell - it's all about the idea of looking inwards and chang...

Showing appreciation ...

Image
Appreciation is a central human need - and appreciation is so much more than reward and praise Appreciation always starts with yourself! You are the pivot of your being. The basis for the whole topic of appreciation is yourself - This includes self-awareness is indispensable and vital in this context ... your awareness of what a unique person you are ... with all your individual characteristics, gifts and abilities ... your way of expressing yourself, acting and reacting. I firmly believe you can not honestly appreciate others if you do not appreciate yourself and if you not really see and even partly understand yourself. Without this 'starting point' appreciation is just a compliment, a praise, and commendation.  A wareness and appreciation for yourself has different facets  ... ... for your unique combination of personality, character, traits and skills: your courage in a given situation, your perseverance, your dedication, your humor, your mind, and way seeing and...

Loss is nothing else but change, and change is Nature’s delight. (Marcus Aurelius)

Image
Life is challenging - if it would not be challenging - I firmly believe life would be boring. I have and everyone has power over my / their mind (in most cases - and if not it's OK as well) ... but I do not and nobody has this power regarding outside events. Realise this, and you will find serenity, patience, and resilience - at least I believe so. Behaviours, beliefs, values, biases and perceptions of other people are outside the reach of our control, and as such they are things that we need to learn to accept. My understanding and learning of life is that we can’t escape these things, we can’t escape contact with people we disagree with, we can’t escape people we find rude or abrasive, all we can do is learn to accept them so that they lessen the impact on our peace of mind, while at the same time working on developing ourselves to act in a way that aligns with who we want to be. These thoughts came to my mind while I have to deal once again with lost, suizid events next to me an...

Resignative Reife – Akzeptanz des Möglichen und des Unmöglichen

Image

Stoicism - My Understanding of Being a Stoic

Image
When I tell the people - that I discovered that I am stoic - they often say: "No not you! You are not a sourpuss or grinch!". And stoics are often seen as selfish and introverted to others.  Then I tell the people that I discovered that not long ago and that stoicism has nothing to do with being grim, sober, or humorless – a suppressing of emotions and withdrawal from the world – it is, in fact, a simple and immensely practical set of ways to deal with challenges in my point of view.  I see stoicism as a way of life, and by the way there is no formally agreed definition what it means in particular and for everyone. And a number of people think that stoicism doesn’t sound a laugh a minute, you might like to read what Seneca once said, “Laughter, and a lot of it, is the right response to the things which drive us to tears.” (Lucius Annaeus Seneca, known simply as Seneca (or Seneca the Younger), was a stoic philosopher and rhetorician). Stoicism means to me living in acknowl...

You don't have to be afraid of dying - you should be afraid of never living YOUR life.

Image
We simply cannot influence that we die - but we can eventually influence how we die. But what we can influence for sure is how we deal with it. I firmly believe that living with self-awareness means - above all - to pause for a moment from time to time - pause to think  and listening to what someone actually wants in life - what someone loves - what someone wants.  Everyone is individual - every life is individual. Everyone has their own definition of what is a fulfilled, good day - what is a fulfilled and good life - positive challenges, experiences, goals ... and especially other people and their own family who fulfill their life. I deeply believe that it is about listening to yourself - and asking ourselves again and again - what makes us happy, what is important or what does someone not want to regret. I wish everyone that they can follow their heart - perhaps you can make a difference here and there - perhaps you can plant a 'seed' for the benefit of others or even for hu...

Find Inner Peace

Image
There are many reasons why inner peace is important in all aspects of life - but the most important reason is YOU! Inner peace means being calmness - mentally and spiritually calm - being aware of yourself, in sync with yourself, with your emotions despite the everyday challenges of life. When you found and have peace of mind, you’ll not be swayed by what people think about you or the events and challenges you encounter. They allow us to overcome the problems that life hands us and all the curveballs and trick plays of life. Self-awareness, love and peace of mind do protect you. It teach us to survive… to live now… to have the courage to confront each day. Finding inner peace is a personal experience, and peace means something different for everyone. There are several ways to find peace within yourself  - being at peace with yourself can mean: Feeling secure about yourself and your path Being mindful and self-aware Finding the ability to let go No matter how you achieve it, in...

Life after Crisis after Covid - What will life be like once the crisis / time of Covid is over?

Image
The numbers all over the world are still high. But by the rising vaccine rate and hopefully less  infectious variants in the future there is or we might get a glimpse of light at the end of the tunnel. And some countries are already beginning the process of re-opening. The must acknowledge to oneself that many people are probably feeling a mixture of impatience, eagerness, or excitement and as well of anxiety about returning to life or better a new version of life - normal life. For sure there are people waiting and are excited for their daily commute to work. Or at our company we change so much to establish flexible workplaces - and everyone can work wherever and almost whenever they like. But that can be great for one, OK for others and scary for another group of people. And for sure everyone is waiting and are excited for in-person meetups, dinners out, weddings and celebrations, and ready to feel the connection of bigger family, friends, sports-, teammates, or team members at t...
